Monkey Mind? Shes Got This! And so Can you!

Updated: Jun 2, 2023

This amazing little human has taught me so much as a mum, she has made me need to continually uplevel myself and how I respond to life! and I mean this in a good way!

Our Children are our best teachers and the best mirrors of who we are. They give us the opportunity to reflect on how we show up in our lives and to grow and change where needed.

Becoming a Mum, especially to a child who is very Intune and sensitive to our world, has meant I have had to grow and look deep within myself and to teach myself different ways to balance myself, to live life on purpose and make conscious choices in all things, so I can provide her the environment to thrive and learn from by simply observing my actions and reactions.

Yesterday I had another proud mum moment and a moment that shows me I am succeeding at this Mum gig.

A little back story: She has been having trouble going to sleep and it took her a while to let me know why and it was because her mind has been very busy with thoughts and some worries (little things like thinking she needed to read all her library books in a week before we went back again and she didn't want to miss out on reading them, when she told me finally that this was keeping her awake I told her she had 3 weeks plus we can extend them :) the relief she had was amazing haha).

So we have spoken about ways to help stop this busy mind when going to sleep and ways that help me and things other people find useful and I wanted to share these with you as well.

Some ways to stop the Monkey mind at bed time:

  • Frankincense oil - applied to the forehead, behind the ears and back of the neck, adults also put a dab on the thumb and place on the roof of the mouth (this works incredibly well!!) - Learn more here

  • Journaling- either free writing/drawing about your thoughts or your day or using journaling prompts to work through different things. - Get your Free Daily Reflection Journal Prompts

  • Breath Awareness- this is simply focusing your attention on your breath and mindfully and intentionally breathing in a calm rhythm, and anytime a thought returns and grabs your attention you acknowledge that there's a thought and let it go without giving it your attention and focus and return the attention to the breath and the calm rhythm.

  • Meditation- Meditation helps us achieve a state of self-awareness by bringing us into the present moment, to leave the past behind and to not be in the future, but rather the here and now. A simple Body Scan meditation can be a really great meditation to do at bed time when the monkey mind takes over. (if you are on my email list a free one will be sent out soon! why not grab yourself the Daily reflection prompts and you will be on the list to receive it once it goes out!)

So the proud Mum moment was - yesterday she said to me she has been writing down her thoughts in a journal, she has been using the Frankincense roller on her forehead and neck and cuddling her teddy again and she hasn't been having trouble going to sleep.🙌

Yay! She's got this! She took what we spoke about and found what works for her!

I wanted to share this story because I wanted you to know that if my 10 year old has got this you can to!
