Why doTERRA?
What is it that makes doTERRA the best quality essential oils in the world?
This is a question that many people ask.
"Well why would I use doTERRA essential oils over what I can buy with my groceries?"
This is a very valid question and it was one I didn't truly understand until I experienced the difference in results using the doTERRA essential oils, including some not so ideal outcomes with another brand when i used it with my daughter.
So I want to help explain a few things that make doTERRAs essential oils different to anything else on the market.
Firstly it is their commitment to provide the purest essential oils through the way they source, grow, harvest, distil and then test each and every batch of essential oil.
The essential oil industry doesn't have very many regulations to keep companies in check with what they are allowed to call an essential oil and the tests that need to be carried out to prove their quality.
Many essential oils on the market are either synthetic (man made in a lab, basically a chemical concoction you don't want on your body), adulterated (had fillers added to it to make the batch produce a larger quantity) , a distilled at a very high heat for a high turn around as it is with food grade oils (this totally destroys the therapeutic properties of the essential oil and it nothing more than a smell or flavour) and then some essentials oils say they are 100% plant extract however their purity (presence of contaminants), potency (balance of chemistry) and growing and harvesting and distillation/extraction methods do not have to be shown or proven.
doTERRA were not happy with this standard. And that is for a few reasons.
1. Purity - being free of contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants will affect the way the essential oil benefits the body.

2. Potency - potency is the balance and harmony of the chemistry of an essential oil and the effect that it will have on the body. If the chemistry of the essential oil is out of the balance or ratio it is meant to be it will have undesired and unexpected results on the body eg. lavender is a calming oil for skin irritations however if its chemistry isn't in the correct balance it will be an irritation to the skin. ( i have experienced this with my eldest daughter who was allergic to everything with lavender in it, we used doTERRA and she experienced calming effects
3. Growing conditions - When a plant grows in its native environment it generally means it is growing its ideal conditions. The amount of rainfall, temperature, altitude, soil type and other conditions all play a role in the overall chemistry balance of the essential oil (remember the potency and its importance!). So doTERRA source their essential oils from where the plant grows natively rather than farming the plants in one area.
Harvesting - when a plant is harvested at its ideal time the essential oil will be at its best, it will be at its best potency and its best quality and it will also give the most amount of essential oil. If a plant is harvested at the wrong time the essential oil benefits will be different and not ideal.
4. Distillation or extraction methods - this part of the process is super important to the end result, done in the wrong way will mean the essential oil will not be of benefit or of very little benefit to the body. The time after harvesting before extraction is really important and varies for each plant, the treatment of the plant material during this phase also affects the outcome. Most essential oils are extracted through steam distillation, and the heat of the steam is really important to get right - too hot and the properties of the essential oil will be really affected and not hot enough and the essential oil yield will be really low because it wont release from the plant.
5. Sustainability - doTERRA are committed to ensuring that their sourcing of essential oils is sustainable both for the market growth but also for the environment and the communities where they source the oils.

6. Humanitarian work - doTERRA have a Co-Impact Sourcing initiative where they source from indigenous areas for the plants but they will ensure they are giving back to the communities they source from by creating income streams or improving income streams, helping with building schools, hospitals, water sources etc for communities in need.

All of these things are covered by doTERRAs CPTG (Certified Pure Tested Grade) certification. They have this standard for themselves to meet all of these requirements for the essential oils they provide to consumers and that they sources from communities.
All of the above reasons are why I choose to support my families wellness with doTERRAs Essential Oils and why I have aligned myself and partnered with doTERRA to bring a healing into every home.
